The Brookhaven and Lincoln county political scene is an active and vibrant area of debate. The Current political debates include several heated areas of discussion.

City expansion through annexation.

The proposed annexation would increase the city's land area from 7.3 square miles to 23.9 square miles and population from approximately 9,800 to approximately 13,200.

Revitalization of old properties for an Intermodal facility servicing rail, and bus traffic.

Airport rehab or replacement.

New city hall to replace the shared city-county government complex currently in use.

TIF funding to develop property for a new Home Depot store.

The Brookhaven School District Board of Trustees meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month @ 6:00 p.m. at the school administration building, Court Street.

The Lincoln County School Board meets the first and third Monday of every month @ 5:30 p.m. at the school district office building, 233 East Monticello Street.
